You Want a Little Arsenic in That?
After some pretty thorough testing of a pretty good cross section of wines (over 1,300 bottles), BeverageGrades has reported that about one quarter of those tested had up to four or five times the amount of arsenic permitted for drinking water.
One point that was raised was that the levels of arsenic or other heavy metals seemed to coincide with the price of the wine as well. In other words, the cheaper the wine the greater the incidence of nasties in it.
Goes to show that the old wives tale about cheap wine giving a worse hangover may in fact have some basis in fact!
Get Outta Here! Roundup is bad?
Not a real big surprise here! I think that pretty much everyone knows that Roundup has got to be a really nasty thing, after all it IS made by Monsanto!
The interesting thing is that fact that a recognized body is now at least saying it is “probably a carcinogen.”
The best part is at the end of the article where there are references to articles by others saying it’s not so bad!
Medicinal Pork Anyone?
OK this is scary!
With an increasing number of researchers and doctors already warning of problems associated with over-prescription of antibiotics anyway do we really need to find yet another way to get them into the food chain?
This alarming practice of just hitting the medicine cabinet or the pesticide draw at every possible opportunity has to stop!
You would think that getting to sleep would be the most natural and easy thing to do in the world given not only how long we each have been doing in but also how long we as a species have needed to do it!
However the reality for many people is a long way from that idyllic concept.
For many of us the act of going to bed exhausted and anticipating that blissful state of drifting off to sleep is just a dream.
More and more people are are being diagnosed with mild to severe sleep disorders these days and the reasons are pretty obvious.
Our current lives don’t really reflect the conditions under which we learned to depend on sleep in the first place.
Not that many of us are out hunting and gathering all day only to return to the cave at nightfall to light a fire and barbecue a whole animal for the tribe!
So, somewhat short of that there are some strategies you can employ to get you mind and your body well placed to let your natural sleep patterns take over and get some well earned rest.
More on Gluten Intolerance
One of the problems with Gluten intolerance is that I believe the real causes of this condition are yet to be revealed.
Humans have for centuries survived on a diet that has actually been high in gluten and the introduction of wheats was one of the telling factors in that survival.
Now we have the situation where we are seeing greater numbers of people reporting an intolerance to that very substance.
On one side we have some saying well the only way it could be possible is if the person has celiac disease, otherwise it must all be in your head.
On the other side we have people reporting symptoms that do not have celiac disease who are becoming increasingly frustrated that they are being treated as if they are imagining things.
Personally I think gluten intolerance is real and can be real outside the narrow confines of a celiac disease diagnosis.
But you see what I think is that the culprit here is not the gluten itself.
I think there is something else at work and it has its roots in modern processed foods and modern agricultural methodology.
