On Getting to Sleep
One of the biggest problems facing people in today’s “modern life” is not just getting enough sleep but getting TO sleep in the first place.
We are surrounded by things that whether we know it or not are counter-intuitive when it comes to putting your head down and drifting off. Within all of us there are strong behavioural signals that are constantly at work telling us NOT to sleep.
It probably harks back to the days of tooth and claw survival which dictates that we can only sleep when all conditions have been met.
That probably used to mean things like certain safety checks made and certain tasks related to survival had been performed and only then could we safely go to sleep.
These days there are numerous activities that are presented to us as perfectly normal but when presented at or around the time you want to sleep may act as triggers to stay awake and be aware.
Now of course we are talking about the same things as we were thousands of years ago but the triggering mechanism is still in place.
Many seemingly innocent things we are “naturally” doing may in fact be the very things that prevent us from going to sleep in the first place.
Take a look at the list below and run through the items.
Check out how each one may be preventing sleep and understand how each one is working.
You may even find something you are doing which although not on the list, mimics something on the list and mat be blocking your natural ability to sleep.
Remember, there is a whole “thing” that your body is doing prior to sleep and if you interfere with that process you may be in for a rough night.
Peanuts, Not so Evil!
Boy, it just goes around and around in circles when it comes to peanuts doesn’t it!
So despite the apparent epidemic of peanut allergies, most likely not caused by peanuts, we now discover that those seriously expensive and exotic nuts you have been spending money on could have been a bit of a waste.
It seems that after all the hooha dies down the humble peanut is just as good!
So, if you lose weight that fertility problem you have been having may just go away.
Is it me or does this “study” seem to be pointing to what was obvious all along?
When you look at the myriad of problems caused in the human body by that body carrying excessive weight then of course a system as delicate as the production of viable sperm would be one of the first cabs off the rank!
As far as the part about the cancer drugs also improving fertility I’ll leave that part of it alone.
WHO Finally Realizes Sugar not so Good!
Can’t really say there is much of a surprise here! I think for a long time now people have been becoming more and more aware of the dangers of over consuming sugar in its many forms.
It is always heartening to see organizations such as WHO add themselves to the growing list of authorities recognizing the problem.
We certainly still have a long way to go and when you look at the education level of the average American on the subject of nutrition that becomes quite obvious.
But either way good news is still good news.
Storing Those Nuts
On the flipside of the whole “Nuts are Going to Kill You” argument there is also strong evidence that suggests that nuts are an incredible source of nutrition.
One point that needs to be made about them is that they all contain high levels of oil and that is not a bad thing.
Most of the oils in nuts are incredibly healthy and very good for you.
The one downside is that because of that high oil content you need to store your nuts with a reasonable amount of care.
Oils do go rancid under normal condition quite easily and because the oils in nuts are very delicate this holds true even more so for them.
Check out this guide to handling and storing your nuts to make sure you get the maximum benefit from them.
As a bonus there are a few valuable tips in there as well for handling your other oils and grains in the kitchen.
It’s not just for making refreshing drinks you know!
Of course soda water has long been used for a whole range of uses around the house so in celebration of that here are a few tricks with soda water you may not have know about.
Here are some great, if not unusual tips for whitening teeth.
Probably the thing to keep in mind with all of these techniques is that although they may seem attractive from an aesthetic point of view there is a practical side to it as well.
In most cases the user has reported that not only do these techniques whiten stained or yellowed tech but they have also sharply reduced the incidence of plaque which as we know is a precursor to decay.
As part of a wider push intended to shift the current emphasis on fast foods and meat some of the larger vegetable product companies are attempting to sexy-up our greens!
They are inviting people to post their sexy veges pictures online in an effort to use the same marketing techniques that the big fast food chains have been successfully using for years now.
