The article linked below caught my eye for a very good reason and believe me when I say you would be doing yourself a favor by checking it out and perhaps even following the advice.
Now the real reason it caught my eye was that it is similar a technique that I have used successfully with a number of people over the years.
So here’s the technique but first a little background.
Since the advent of the modern media circus we are all subjected to these days it is very clear that there is one main purpose to it all.
That purpose is to sell advertising.
newspapers or any media outlet for that matter have as their entire reason for existence the creation of income though advertising.
Now some people may still hark back to the old days when perhaps the original newspapers had some kind of higher purpose in mind such as informing the public and acting as a safety valve for when certain things were getting out of control.
But those days are long gone and sometimes I wonder if they ever existed at all.
What essentially happened in the post WWII era was the realization that the best way to hold the attention of people was through fear.
This was a lesson learned in the war and has been used ever since.
Now if I want to continually market to you I need you to keep coming back for more and it is through fear that the media achieves this.
That in a nutshell is why the news always seems so bad.
The continual promotion of a dangerous environment means that you feel bad yet cannot safely skip the nightly news or the daily paper for fear of missing out on something that may directly affect you or your family.
This mechanism is designed to keep you coming back for more!
The truth is that bad stuff has been happening all around the world since the beginning of time and may very well continue to happen.
Subjecting yourself to a constant bombardment of terrible events is not healthy for you or the people around you so… here’s the deal.
For two weeks do not watch T.V. in any shape or form, do not read newspapers or any media service online.
In other words get NO NEWS for two weeks.
Trust me, you will feel so much better when you finish.
Some Wellness Tips
I don’t often post stuff from the Minimalist because generally it is a site more concerned with wellbeing and although there is nothing wrong with that I do try to keep things here more directly in line with the health theme.
However this week they posted a good article on a few steps you can take to live better and as a result, live healthier.
One thing I wanted to add to the conversation stems directly from the first point they make of trying harder to understand others.
Too often I see people in my life being adversely affected by the actions, attitudes or remarks of others.
They tend to take things to heart much too easily and as a result feel bad about themselves and life in general.
The trick here is that same point, understanding.
Not that you have to understand the other guy so much as try to imagine why that person would do something or say something upsetting to you.
If someone says something bad about you or to you the process is quite simple.
First of all decide whether you think that person is in all reality, totally evil or basically good.
This is not a difficult or complicated decision process to get into.
Just simply work out whether you think they are basically a good person or basically an evil person.
If you decide they are basically evil then you can only conclude that whatever they did or said that affected you was done from the point of view that they wished a destructive result.
From this you can further conclude that whatever it was there was nothing of value and no truth in it because the overriding goal was destructive or destruction.
In other words, it related in no way to you and is of no value.
If you decided that the person was basically good, yet they have seemingly done something unkind or bad or that you strongly disagree with then your job is equally simple.
Don’t try to work out anything about the action itself, it is pointless.
Simply ask yourself this:
What result or what problem would that person be trying to get or solve by doing that thing or saying that thing?
Instead of trying to work out what was done or said, concentrate on trying to understand what would drive that action from a basically good person.
Tips for Being Stress Free
In the article below there is an outline for a plan of attack when it comes to ending the week that was and getting set up for the coming one.
The key to this strategy and many similar to it is the concept of writing things down.
Easily one of the fastest ways of getting your mind clear on just about any subject or area of life is to write it all down on paper.
Now remember, when I say write I mean with a pen or pencil (remember those?) and when I say write it down, I mean on a piece of paper.
The one the things that has rendered this strategy rather useless in the recent past is that people think if they write something down by typing it into a mobile device or a computer or similar that they have completed the task.
Not so my friend!
The reality of doing this is to get whatever it is that is in your head (a notoriously bad place to keep things), out of your head and into the real world.
There is the virtual world of your mind and the even more virtual world of electronic devices.
Either way they are both “virtual” AND WE DO NOT WANT THAT.
For some reason if you can get all the details of something that has been in your head down on to a physical piece of paper you mind will clear and very soon you will likely begin seeing that information in a totally different light.

Monsanto Fails to Surprise us… again!
In shocking news from over at the Food Babe blog it turns out that a “scientist” from the University of Florida who has been systematically running a campaign of trying to discredit anything negative said by anyone against Monsanto AND has been publically and repeatedly denying he is in the pocket of Monsanto has in fact been in the pocket of Monsanto the whole time.
What a surprise!
The New York Times did an investigative piece and sadly for the good professor and Monsanto it hasn’t gone well!
It’s a great read with internal emails leaked and all sorts of stuff even down to the guy not even saying his own stuff.
He just repeated the words written by Monsanto’s PR company… how lazy is that?
Vitamin D, a More Balanced View
A few weeks back now the topic of the day seemed to be that of a rising incidence of vitamin D deficiencies.
A number possible causes for this were being put about.
Probably the ones that made the most sense in my mind were of course diet at number one and lack of direct sunlight at number two.
Unfortunately some of the most abundant sources of vitamin D such as whole grains, certain vegetables and fresh fish have not just suffered in our diets from a popularity or frequency point of view.
Many of these food sources have been subjected to modern farming or processing techniques leaving them as rather poor sources of vitamin D.
As far as sunlight goes, the campaigns regarding the connection between sun exposure and skin cancer have been very, very effective in one way but as usual we humans have gone totally overboard on it.
This has resulted in large sections of the population avoiding sunlight so comprehensively that they are failing to manufacture vitamin D naturally.
The answer is to find natural sources of Vitamin D of course and get “a little” direct sunlight but as I said, we humans tend to go over the top sometimes so… in the interests of safety here is an article on getting too much vitamin D.
Remember, the answer lies in the middle ground as always.
Tips for Stomach Flu
This is just a quick tip post but I thought it was important to share.
Many of us have had stomach flu at some point in time and I don’t think there is a common affliction quite like it.
I am not sure why but one of the unlisted symptoms of it seems to be a general sense of misery that goes along with everything else.
It is definitely one of those ones where the Doctor keeps talking on and on and ends up giving you stuff to take for it but in the back of your mind you actually know he is just telling you that you are going to have suffer through it!
