Sounds a Bit Fishy!
I think this article below really sums up the problem with the food supply at the moment.
The fact is that America is exporting one third of all fish stock it catches every year…BUT… it is also importing 91% of all the fish it consumes.
So think about that for a moment and in the end you arrive at a kind of WTF moment!
What is that all about?
For the full details you need to read the article but it boils down to the fact that people in foreign countries are more willing to pay a reasonable price for quality fish products.
Whereas in America, probably the most ignorant country in the world when it comes to nutrition, only eat fish when it is either very cheap or is disguised as something else.
They actually produce a mountain of wild caught premium product that they will not buy themselves and exchange it for any old cheap rubbish they can find on the international market and make it into fish sticks.
Restaurant or Fast Food?
This is an interesting study I came across this week comparing eating out at a full service restaurant to eating at a fast food outlet.
What they found was that both eating experiences resulted in the same calorie intake even though the restaurant food was the healthier option overall.
The researchers put this down to the fact that at the restaurant people were more likely to eat a larger amount of food than they would at a fast food chain even though the food itself contained less calories.
In a nutshell, at a restaurant we eat more, lower calorie food!
The restaurants clearly came out on top when it came to pure nutritional value such as vitamins and in fact were a better choice than the average person eating at home!
This was put down to higher turnover of food resulting in a fresher experience as well as more considered food preparation.
It seemed that the best alternative, apart from expense, was the restaurant especially if you could control yourself at the point of ordering!
Unfortunately when it came to oil and salt, the restaurants fell over with them being clearly the worst!
Yeast Infection Information
It’s one of those subjects that when it comes up everyone’s voice lowers a little and and we all start looking around the perimeter to see who is within hearing distance.
Yes people we are talking YEAST INFECTIONS!
You know if you yell it out loud enough and often enough the effect kind of wears off!
Anyhoo, we could probably go on for years about the current environmental state of the average vagina and what has led to an increase in yeast infections.
Non-natural fiber underwear, the myriad of “personal” products marketed to women to stop “down there” from turning into some kind of disaster area or even just plain old diet… whatever.
Here are some simple tips and pieces of advice on the subject.
Apparently it’s the Wind Farms!
You know what makes me suspicious of this article?
OK, it is an article that seems very authoritative on the subject of hearing loss.
It is long, so a long article must have weight right?
It quotes facts, figures and studies and to top it all off has medial type diagrams and all!
So it all must be true right?
Well, maybe it is and maybe it isn’t but the big thing for me was the example they used to illustrate inaudible noise… windfarms.
Yup, somehow they managed to create a concerning article about possible causes of hearing loss due to sounds you can’t hear from sources you can’t identify and then link it to windfarms. Incredible!
Hives Treatments at Home
I recently sent my teenage son to the doctors to have him take a look at a rash he had developed on his neck.
For the first time in his life he went alone without mom or dad so I was interested to see what the result would be.
To be honest I figured that the rash was the result of the recent heat and humidity here and that his skin was just irritated by sweat and probably him scratching or something.
Anyway he returned rather proud of himself having completed this very “grown up” task all by himself and proudly displayed the results on the form of his prescription.
To my horror I discovered that the doctor had agreed that the rash was probably just heat/sweat related but had then proceeded to prescribe steroids for it!
I couldn’t believe it.
Of course he has never taken them and all I did was check around for a few home remedies for that type of irritation and all was well but I am still not over the shock at how easily a doctor resorted to the last resort for any kind of serious skin disorder and went for the steroids. Yikes!
Anyway, disaster averted and the link below is to some advice on dealing hives in particular but most of it also applies to just about any minor skin irritation.
More Statins Please!
You know most of the time the Harvard Health blog is a pretty good source of current medical information regarding a lot of common diseases and other health issues.
But every now and then they show their true colors!
The title really says it all!
They did a study on extending the use of statins and wonder of wonders… yes!
We totally need to prescribe more of that stuff!
It is just a prime example of medicine gone totally nuts.
At no time do they investigate why people have higher cholesterol or even consider that as a “thing!”
They just plough on prescribing statins to reduce cholesterol and even when that comes under scrutiny from other sources they just deal with that in their time honored way.
Do a study that not only shows that selling that stuff is totally awesome but have the study show that they haven’t been doing it enough and need to prescribe more!
There’s gold in them veins and arteries.
When I first saw this article I thought to myself it sounded pretty good.
Sadly although the proposed supplement they are talking about may offer relief to sufferers of Celiac Disease and a way forward by not having to be so careful it is not a cure.
Personally I think the “cure” for Celiac Disease would be best found by isolating the cause of the condition in the first place.
It’s all very well to spend millions of dollars on research so as to cure some condition but I can’t help but wonder why it is that this disease has made such an appearance in our times.
Perhaps it’s not really a disease as we know it.
Perhaps it is just a reaction by some people’s bodies as a result of the overall changes in the worlds food environment.
By that I don’t just means natural changes but additions such as pesticides as well as the introduction of crossbred varieties of staples created for the purpose of increased yields and for no other reason.
