The Empire Strikes Back
I guess from Big Food’s point of view the internet has turned out to be a bit of a pain in the butt!
Seems those damn consumers are getting together and sharing information about their activities and it’s getting really hard to control the flow of information about all the nasty stuff they have been putting into food for decades now uncontrolled.
Fortunately for Big Food there is a way to combat all that nasty truth stuff floating around and keep the flow of information under control.
They have worked out a strategy that is so good, what could possibly go wrong!
The idea is to create an organisation with an official or authoritarian or sciency kind of name and then have it issue “information” to counter all that truthiness floating around on those internets.
Names like “The International Food Information Council.”
You see? It must be full of truthiness because it’s got the word “council” in it!
Or perhaps the “American Council on Science and Health.” Wow!
That must be official because not only does it have “council” in it but also “health” and “science!”
Better listen to what those boys have to say!
Unfortunately the fact that I am writing this and that the original article appears on FoodBabe tends to suggest that their cover has been blown!
I mean really, the one funded by Monsanto… you think you can work out what kind of stuff they are lobbying for and trying to discredit? Doesn’t take much imagination does it?
Prostate Cancer Detection
If you are a guy or you know one then you really need to read this in full.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in men in most Western countries and is one of the leading causes of death due to cancer.
The sad reality is that this form of cancer develops very slowly over time, can be easily detected and can be successfully treated if caught in its early stages.
So if that’s the case then why does it remain a leading killer?
Because men just don’t get checked.
That’s the entirety of the story.
Guys simply do not as a rule engage in almost any form of preventative medical procedure or strategy.
The rule for men is that they go to the doctor only when they feel something is wrong and even then they wait until whatever is wrong is really, really wrong!
So guys, wake up and get regular checks and the chances of your catching anything like this early enough to be easily treated are very high… let it go and your chanced of death are also very high!
You have been warned.
Listen to the Oysters?
There are numerous forms of life on this planet that can at any time give us an insight to just how good or bad things are going on an environmental level.
One of the most common of these are bivalves because of their filtering action and tendency to absorb not just nutrients from the water in which they live but toxins and other substances as well.
In the article below Mark Bittman goes into one particular species we are all familiar with and that is oysters.

Politicians Decide to Advise on Diet
Sometimes I look at how things are done in America and wonder how anything ever gets done at all!
A few months ago the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee announced their preliminary findings for new guidelines to be released at a later date after further submissions and discussions were to take place.
They indicated in the preliminary findings they were going to adjust certain criteria based on more current evidence introduced a new concept that had industry shaking in it’s boots.
That point was that they were making a connection between diet, health and the environment.
This has subsequently resulted in a lobbyist stampede on the American Congress on the part of Big Food.
Because they don’t want those things to be associated officially because ultimately there may be legislation passed regarding agriculture that includes the consideration of public health and the environment!
They see that as a disaster in the making.
So now from Congress specific proposals have emerged forbidding the Guidelines to include mention of health and the environment!
This is the kind of madness that goes on not just in America but all over the world.
Because the politicians are generally trying to run things in a sane manner but in order to get into office they need vast sums of money and without industry support they can’t get it.
So around it goes. An endless balancing act where nothing really ever gets done even though everyone knows what should be done.
