The Human Microbiome
One of the things that I think results in us constantly going around and around in circle trying to solve the problem of “what’s wrong with my body” is our fatal attraction to the two step explanation.
It seems to me as humans we just adore anything that can sum up a situation is two direct and related steps.
What we seem to hate is the idea that there can be a sequence or chain of events leading to a result.
For some reason it seems to take forever for us to accept theories or ideas based on this chain of events concept. Maybe it’s just a human thing that we have brought with us along the evolutionary trail because it served well in the past especially from times when things were a bit more urgent when it came to survival.
The link below leads to a page with an embedded video on it covering probably one of the best explanations I have seen of the Human Microbiome.
I refer to it and recommend it highly because in that video I believe to be the answers to a whole range of modern ills that we seem to be going around in circles on dealing with.
The difficulty of it is that it does not offer a two step explanation for anything.
What it does off is possible the starting point for the explanation of so many things that we suffer from today and from that starting point, three or four or more steps later there is a solution.

If you check out the link below it doesn’t really go to any huge resource page or anything like that.
This is just some warm up promo for Marion Nestle’s new book about taking on the soda industry and getting them reigned in for the good of everyone.
Given the money involved you can imagine the screaming and squealing the soda industry has been displaying since the word started to wake up to the effects of their products.
On one hand crying to an often sympathetic press and array of Government agencies and on the other hand engaging in dirty tricks, smear campaigns and plain old disinformation propaganda it’s one helluva story!
So the next big thing in the health department seems to be intermittent fasting.
As usual there are glowing reports from happy campers extolling the virtues of this latest awesome way of getting whatever it is you want with regards to your overall health. Blah, blah, blah.
Is it good for you? Is it bad for you? Hell, I don’t know!
But what I do know is that you can follow the link below to get a reasoned take on the whole thing without the usual associated hysteria.
Trans Fats Transitions
Arguably this news is about ten years too late but at least the day seems to have finally arrived. With statistics like 20,000 heart attacks every years and somewhere like 7,000 deaths per year it kind of makes you wonder why it seems to take so long for the FDA to finally do something.
The truth is that if you asked the average person what Trans Fats are they wouldn’t know and even if they did they would have no idea what food they were eating contained them.
Probably for me the real kicker in all of this is the fact that trans Fats do actually DO anything nutritionally for any food they are in aside from promote ill health.
It is just another example, possibly the perfect example of an ingredient in food that has no other purpose than to make the food more attractive to consumers to help sales.
Maybe they should identify all such foods and if it has no demonstrable purpose other than to make something more attractive or to reduce expenses to add to the bottom line they should be banned altogether.
There is an ever growing list of ailments these days that are beginning to make their way into the category of inflammatory diseases.
Personally I think to root cause of this is a highly compromised food chain that has changed so dramatically in the past 100 years there is simply no way our bodies could have the time to change, evolve or adjust.
I think the average human body in developed countries with processed foods as a major factor are in a state of extreme overwhelm.
It is as if it has become all too much and slowly our bodies a just shutting down because the natural balance has not just gone out but has gone out too such a degree that the nature of the body to balance itself is being lost.
Sounds like time for a smoothie!
The Herb Superb!
OK I have a confession to make before you go off and read this article.
I have read a million articles like it offering excellent tips and tricks on how to grow your own herbs.
I have also attempted this on numerous occasions and you need to know that I have never succeeded.
I have tried it from seeds, seedlings all the way through to purchasing fully grown plants and every time I have somehow managed to murder the aforementioned plant.
So there… now you know.
The one that gets me the most is the mint.
When I was growing up my mother had a huge mint bush around the side of the house that she did absolutely nothing for.
She rarely bothered to water it, she unceremoniously hacked away at it for the sunday roast lamb and in general treated in with complete disdain.
Yet year after year that damn thing just kept on growing until at times she had to hack it back under control.
I on the other have tried caring for mint and nurturing mint with the death of the mint being the only result.
I have even taken her advice and scornfully mistreated the mint and all that happened was it died faster!
So, if you feel like giving it a go the article below might help… or not.
This is the sort of research we should be getting behind.
The idea of endlessly adding toxins to the environment to boost crop yields and to control pests is just logically bankrupt.
It makes absolutely no sense at all but of course we humans have never let anything like stop us before!
This is a great example of using what is right in front of us to deal with problems rather than just resorting to force in the form of chemical intervention the consequences of which we really have no idea.
Every time I hear some drug company guy or some agricultural chemical guy say that something is perfectly safe I know that he is completely talking out of his butt.
What he is saying is that they have done tests within very narrow guidelines bearing no actual resemblance to anything in reality and it all came out fine… as far as we know… for the moment.
