Finally! I can safely refer to an article that makes absolute sense and can only wonder at why this took so long!
Of course chocolate makes you look younger, it has to, it is so good how could it be anything other than a miracle worker.
Chocoholics of the world rejoice for you were right all along.
Sadly because the product being referred to in the article has been monstered by white-coated science boffins they have somehow managed to pack all the necessary goodness from 100gms of dark chocolate into a 7gm product. What?
Where’s the fun in that?
Maybe it’s Not the Nuts?
There seems to be a kind of worrying trend emerging from the habits of parents across the past twenty years.
It seems that they have been so bombarded with information regarding the dangers of children eating just about every kind of food known to man their children have become overly sensitive to a wide variety of foods.
Take for example the peanut allergy or nut allergy thing.
It just seems so strange that as a species we would suddenly begin to display allergies to foods that have been around for centuries.
Unfortunately whenever anything like this happens the medical scientists remain blinkered in their approach to understanding the cause.
Peanut allergies must be caused by peanuts right?
But what if the allergic reaction to peanuts is caused by something else?
What if that allergic reaction is a symptom of another problem rather than the problem itself?
These are the questions I see the scientists fail to ask and seek answers for on a regular basis.
All the Single Ladies
Well I can certainly see the single ladies standing around and giving high fives and “woohoo’s” on this one!
However as is often the case with article like this it makes for a good headline but then the backtracking begins.
I am all for keeping things light when it comes to how we should and should not be living out lives but the truth in this one is actually a little different… and obvious.
Research indicates that those women who were in unhappy relationships and subsequently got out DO live longer.
On the flip side, those who were in successful or happy marriages also lived longer.
The ones that stay in unhappy marriages are more likely to die younger as are those who are seeking but never find a long term relationship.
So in the end it all pans outy probably pretty much how you would have expected it to.
Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Report
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee each year provides a very complete report on the current and desired state of the average U.S. diet each year prior to the release of the actual Dietary Guidelines.
This year they have actually come out swinging a little and have recommended some pretty serious changes to how Americans and the U.S. food industry not only look at nutrition but also how they look at the subject of health overall.
Stand by for fireworks cos’ “big food” is NOT going to take this lying down.
OK, I admit it, I have a little crush on Food Babe but really I only read her blog for the articles.
This week she covers a subject close to my heart… actually two!
Every day I see the results of the marketing departments of the food companies and how they take food and completely remove any aspect of reality connected with it and replace it with emotion.
You see, that’s what marketing really is. Simply an effort to hit you on an emotional level to create desire.
To override commonsense, to bypass logic and to just cause an emotional reaction and subsequently as sale.
Go on, be a Little Naughty
I think of myself a healthy eater and as much as I try to stay on the straight and narrow let’s face it.
I love beer, wine, fries, burgers and a whole bunch of other so called unhealthy stuff.
One thing I feel that is very important is that when I (moderately) indulge myself and have those things I don’t make myself feel guilty for it.
To me it is important not to attach feelings of negativity to eating of any kind else you start down that slippery slope of eating emotionally rather than just common sense.
