I think that one of the main things all of us really have to keep in mind when it comes to healthy food and healthy eating is that in the long term nothing much has changed!
What our grandmothers considered to be a healthy diet is still considered to be a healthy diet.
Not too much sugar, drink water, get food that is as unprocessed as possible, plenty of vegetables and eat some fruit.
Now you can talk about Paleo diets or even vegan diets but in the end there is very little actual difference between them.
In fact the only big difference is the source of protein and even them both will insist on some kind of natural or unprocessed form.
The link below goes to a page with a video that I think provides just about everything you need to know on this.
Understand that what we have always recognized as a healthy diet still as a healthy diet and attempts to convince you otherwise are marketing tricks not nutritional advice!

The Best Way to Fight the Flu
And the Truth Will Out
To really get a sense of the article I have linked to below you have to place it in context. So here’s some context.
First up this is an article published on the Harvard health blog and is the second I have seen recently that in an overall sense acknowledges the health dangers created by the overuse of sugar.
However what they fail to include in this article is their own culpability in the matter.
Here is the history they present:
“A study funded by the Sugar Research Foundation (SRF) from the 1960s found that cholesterol and fat were the main contributors to weight gain and responsible for an increased risk for coronary heart disease. These results kick-started the country’s decades-long consumption of added sugar.”
This is a pretty accurate summing up of what went on at that time according to the research later done on the nature of that original research.
However what they have failed to include is what I would call the nitty gritty of the situation at that time.
Yes, the SRF paid for the research but what is missing is that they paid Harvard professors to carry out that research and then worked with those same professors to word their research accordingly.
Then they say:
” With fat removed, food lost taste and appeal, so manufacturers added sugar to combat this. The country’s intake of sugar and processed carbohydrates went up, while our intake of fat went down.”
No, that is not the reason and no-one has ever offered any evidence that happened.
The overall plan was to firstly remove sugar from any health debate whatsoever and then aggressively market sugar as a cheap flavour enhancer to all food manufacturers full stop.
The entire exercise was simply about hiding the effects of sugar then moving forward, getting sugar added to everything under the sun despite being fully aware of the health dangers that represented.
As to the rest of the article it gives a very good rundown of why calories derived from different sources result in more or less weight gain.

Sometimes there are weeks when the news is just annoying.
Here is an article where UK doctors are finding that the relative health and diversity of patients biome can affect the efficacy of drugs treatments for cancer.
They even go on to say that studying the human biome had “great potential.”
Do these people ever talk to each other or read each other’s publications?
Research is beginning to show a relationship between the health and vitality of a person’s biome and… cancer of just about every kind, autism and other behavioral problems both on and off the autism spectrum, heart disease, circulatory diseases, liver diseases and on and on it goes.
Can nobody see a pattern here?
Doh! Another Reason to Exercise
This week a study showing that people who exercise regularly tend to be more resistant to colds and flu… well duh!
The thing I find most interesting about all this colds and flu rubbish is that if you go back to the first discoveries of germs and their actions there was more written about it than we were all taught at school.
The original idea was that germs, bacteria etc caused illness and infection BUT in most cases the host organism (you) had to already be in a weakened physical state for them to take hold.
There are two main ways to get yourself into that weakened physical state.
First, purely physical means such as poor diet, lack of exercise, etc.
The second way is to be connected to people or in a situation that is just not emotionally or mentally healthy. Lowered emotional state or lowered mental state results in lowered physical state and there you go.
How’s That Sugar Tab Going?
So my favourite pastime at the moment is to watch the expenditure meter for Big Soda’s anti soda tax campaigns steadily tick over.
Of course if they were pouring money down that hole and getting positive results it wouldn’t be as much fun!
However true to form they are not only gaining almost no traction with their spending they are also having to deal with almost constant foot bullets.
Things like announcing Bernie Sanders supporting them… and then Bernie coming out and denouncing their use of him in their campaigns… ouch!
Caught lying trying to characterize and rename the soda tax as a “grocery tax” to try and scare everyone… didn’t work, got busted.
And finally being awarded amongst the top 5 worst political ads of 2016 by USA Today for their already mentioned “Grocery Tax” debacle!
And the best part of it all?
The fact that so far the tab is up to $40 million!
It seems like every week I come across something that gives me a WTF moment and this week it’s alkaline water.
Seriously folks it’s just water for goodness sakes!
Take a glass of water, add some bi-carb and you have alkaline water… happy?
Does it do anything for you? No!
Here’s the deal.
Your body has an intricate and very sophisticated system for maintaining the acid balance.
It does this because most actions and reactions within the body can only occur at a certain ph level.
So if you ingest anything too acid or too alkaline the very first thing your body does is to adjust the acidity or alkalinity to it’s own preferred level.
Why the hell would acid water or alkaline water be any different.
This is pure marketing guff based on junk science of the lowest order.
