Detox and Cleansing Diets?
One popular subject in the field of overall general health is the concept of detoxing the body.
Although there have been very few real studies done on the subject the benefits of a detox program seem to be enthusiastically promoted by many people.
So what’s the deal?
Realistically speaking our bodies are designed to clean themselves internally on an almost constant basis. From a medical standpoint this is the argument used to generally dismiss detox diets or programs as nothing more than nonsense.
Yet even if you ignore the ever the top marketing and promotion put out by the various products and services related to detoxing there still seems to be at least some advantages being presented.
In my opinion it comes down to one point.
Although our bodies are well designed to eliminate toxins from themselves they are only designed to be able to handle so much.
The reality of modern living is that our food environment and our environment in general has seen a rise in the number of toxins around us and a rise in the sheer volume of those toxins.
It is not too hard to imagine that there must be some kind of tipping point in all of this at which the body’s own internal systems start to fall behind or become overwhelmed.
So for me I don’t think that many of these detox programs work within themselves.
What I believe the benefits are that people are reporting is the effect of cutting down on certains things which in turn allows the body to catch up on the backlog.
This Is NOT NATURAL
Breakfast, Yes or No?
The old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day may not be actually true.
I guess this is another case of repeating the same thing over and over until everyone believes it to be true rather than being based on fact.
One of the areas where breakfast has been promoted heavily has been the area of weight loss.
The advice has been generally that skipping breakfast leads to weight gain due to a number of factors… all of which remain rather vague!
Recently a number of studies have been carried out regarding the relationship between weight loss and weight gain and the consumption of breakfast.
As usual the results have shown that breakfast may or may not be the most important meal of the day and that eating or not eating breakfast may or may not affect weight gain or weight loss.
To cut it short, no-one really seems to know anything other than they at least got paid for the duration of the studies.
Yes, We Can Rebuild Her!
This week I wanted to refer to this story coming out of the BBC in England.
You know it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that the technology filtering down to us at a consumer level appears to be restricted in many ways.
We tend to have our attention focused on the latest and greatest as far as the new iPhone goes or the latest camera or some kind of gadget that technologically is amazing but otherwise… kind of meh!
Really, the mobile phone is still constantly touted as this life changing and empowering device that allows us to do all sorts of things but in the end 99% of it’s use goes into content consumption.
I see people extolling the virtues of Steve Jobs and I just don’t get it.
The majority of what he created was just a more effective and successful way of pulling people into and fixing them in a wasteful marketing cycle of endless upgrades for no reason other than making profit.
Yes, these devices can be used to create things but they are rarely used that way.
Mostly they are used to continue to consume content and products and to keep you tapped into that continuous stream of marketing for longer periods of time per day.
All of this in the effort to get you to consume more.
Well the story below is a refreshing change form that, technology being used and developed to to create a bionic eye… that more like it!
The occurrence of headaches in the general population is a statistic that just keeps going up for some reason.
There are lots of theories about why headaches have become so prominent but so far nothing has been put forward as a definitive reason as to why.
Personally I think that there are probably as many causes for headaches as there are people suffering from them.
Most people who suffer from regular or persistent headaches are reluctant to take over the counter pain killers because although they are marked as being safe, deep down they also know that’s probably not true.
So there is a link below to an article offering a few suggestions as to how you can deal with your own version of the modern headache.
They are all safe and natural and hopefully one of them might work for you.
The one that does standout for me though is the use of magnesium.
I have written on a number of occasions about the modern diet lacking in magnesium and how a reduction in magnesium leads to a further drop in levels.
For that one, try to get a liquid form of magnesium with the mineral being in it’s ionic form.
This allows for far greater absorption resulting in the body rebalancing much faster.
The trick with magnesium supplements is to start slow and raise the dosage to the point where the bowels become loose.
This is the body’s sign that you have hit just above the optimum dosage.
Take the dosage down a little after you hit that point and maintain.
Let’s Not Forget to Take Stock Here!
It is pretty easy these days to look around the world, or at least the internet and begin to think that things are just getting worse!
I guess that’s the main problem with the endless stream of information we are subjected to, the idea that it’s just bad news after bad news.
So at the beginning of this new years maybe it’s time to stop and take stock of the situation and in doing so get a new perspective of how things are going.
Over at FoodBabe this week she pulled together just such a post that really shows that things can be changed and changed for the better.
That although the internet may very well be the greatest source of doom and gloom ever invented by man, it can also be used to achieved some pretty amazing things.
Just take a look at the list of changes she and real people like you made by exposing the nasties to a little sunlight and getting them dealt with.
Big Food and Big Pharma will always try to get away with whatever they can to increase their profits and the overall good to mankind they are achieving along the way to them is irrelevant.
They quite literally don’t care… unless it’s bad for their PR and ultimately their sales.
In that case, they can be surprisingly responsive to consumer demands!
