There are two reason it is important to maintain proper habits and routines when it comes to dental care.
The first, and although it should be the lesser reason, often is not, is that how we are accepted and treated in the world by other is heavily affected by our appearance.
We can all say it should not be this way but the truth is your appearance sets the tone from the outset and an important fator is the condition of your teeth.
The second reason which should be of greater importance is that of overall health.
Poorly maintained teeth don’t just look bad, they can lead to cavities, gum disease and a range of associated health problems.
The truth is that the teeth you end up with after your baby teeth have all gone have to last for many (hopefully!) years.
When you take care of your teeth, gums and tongue, you are preventing volatile sulfur compounds that cause bad odors. These are a result from bacteria breaking down leftover food in your mouth.
Let’s face it, we would all love to have a whiter, brighter smile and healthier gums if only just to make us feel better about ourselves and give us a confidence boost.
Basic tooth care comes down to constant practice of the basics and regular check-up at the dentist to detect any problems in their early stages and before major actions are needed.
There are a great many products out there offering all sorts of benefits in an effort to separate themselves from the crowd.
Don’t buy into this marketing, its sole purpose is to make you want to desire something then buy it.
Choose regular toothpaste suited to your needs. That means no more than choosing a normal product if you have normal teeth and gums or perhaps a sensitive product for those situations.
Be wary of teeth whitening products. Not because they will hurt your teeth but because they will usually and unnecessarily hurt your pocket!
Most of them are relatively ineffective and rather than spend over and over on them a regular visit to the dentist for a clean and polish will do the trick.
If you have particularly stained or darkened teeth consult with your dentist to get a realistic view of what choice you have.
While you are there get the dentist to evaluate how effective your brushing routine and technique is.
Many people are surprised when they find they have gum problems or cavities because they brush regularly and often and can’t understand how this could happen.
Often it is because they are brushing incorrectly, to hard, too soft, not long enough… get you dentist to check your teeth and he will be able to give you a good idea of how you are doing.
If you find you have a constant build up of tartar happening there are two thing you can do on an immediate basis.
First, start regularly drinking water, tatar is a symptom of the mouth being in a dry state for long periods which in turn indicates insufficient water intake.
It is not thew quantity of water being taken in that is the problem, it is the infrequency of it which is the problem. Having water to hand and regularly sipping is the bst practice.
In concert with this you can also introduce a mouthwash routine. This is not hugely effective in reducing tartar in itself but it does help keep the bacteria levels down in your mouth which are the result of the tartar build up.
Follow these basic rules and you will have whiter teeth that will last a lifetime.

Humidity – Hair’s Natural Enemy
When the humidity of the air around you is greater than normal you hair can quite literally swell up. This is caused by the cuticles on the hair lifting up in reaction to higher water content and results in your hair seeming to be more rough or frizzy than normal.
If your hair is already dry or damaged then the effect can be even worse, check this out:
