Ultra Spiritual Yoga Tips
Sometimes I think we all take things a little too seriously.
I see conversations on social media across all platforms where whatever the subject being discussed is, it becomes a life or death struggle for being right and avoiding being wrong at all costs.
In fact I am constantly amazed at how a passionate interest in something, called into question becomes the basis for hurtful and hateful exchanges.
I think a little time with JP is something we all need just to get things back into perspective.
Yay! Chocolate Pills!
Sometimes you come across a story that gets you all excited because it seems to hold within it a promise of something awesomely indulgent which at the same time is wildly healthy.
So once again it is time to have our hope of a chocolate cure dashed yet again!
So the headline has words like “Chocolate Pill” in it so you think this is going to be good but then you read down the page and find that they are testing cocoa extract for its effects on heart disease.
“Cocoa extract” is the first warning sign that this isn’t going to be the chocolate festival you thought it was and by the time you get to the “pills that can’t be detected as different from the placebo” you just know the fun factor totally went out of it altogether.
Anyway, let’s hope at least the trial is successful even if it is a bit clinical and flavourless.
Eat Your Mint!
Mint or at least various mint extracts and oils have been used for centuries to deal with a whole range of body problems and to treat infections.
I think mints are one of the best example of nature not just providing a solution to a problem but advertising it effectively as well.
I mean really, when you smell mint or taste mint you just automatically think that this has got to be good for something right?
Well it turns out that not only is it good for a whole bunch of things but there are a whole bunch of sciency reasons for it!
The Science of Spotting Fake Foods
You would think that food is just food and there is not much else to discuss from that point on right!
Sadly that’s not true anymore!
In fact this is a subject that has become so overwhelmingly complex and convoluted that there is little hope for the average person to be able to decipher exactly what it is they are consuming anymore.
When you hear government departments and bog food blithely say things like, “well it is “mostly” that thing” rather than just “that thing you know we are all in trouble.
Marketing Sugar to Kids
The American Heart Association recommends that children in the U.S. should be consuming less than 6 teaspoons of sugar per day which is, when you think about it quite a lot really!
On the other hand the average child in America is actually consuming closer to 18 teaspoons per day which now makes the 6 look a whole lot better!
Despite long running research and educational programs clearly showing that this kind of sugar consumption is absolutely laying down health time bombs for the future, the situation remains.
In fact despite all the above the food industry and the sugar industry in America continue to aggressively market directly at children to lure them into this health trap.
To me it must take an internal justification process of epic proportions by the executives of these companies to allow them to sleep at night.
Unless of course they are all sociopaths in which case it makes perfect sense.
The Man with Two Brains
The link to the article below to me represents one of the most important areas of research today when it comes to the overall health of a population.
Conditions such as leaky gut and gluten intolerance all the way through to Autism may very well find their real sources in this subject.
In fact I feel pretty confident that ultimately they will find their causes and solutions in it.
What I am talking about here is the study of the human microbiome.
When you think about it the human microbiome consists of approximately 10 trillion microbes that perform a bewildering array of function on our behalf and let’s be clear here.
They do not just “help us digest food!”
Their function, as the research unfolds keeps going deeper and deeper into just about every aspect of how a human body works and keeps going and more importantly, how well it keeps going.
Lemon Juice and Flax Seeds
On the completely different subject , the other day I was checking out some recipes for baking cakes and stumbled upon a vegan recipe for a sponge cake.
Understanding what exactly it is that makes a sponge cake a sponge cake I was interested to see how a vegan recipe achieved this.
Both the rising of the cake itself during baking as well as the final structure in a conventional sponge is achieved through the use of eggs and their particular properties when beaten and mixed with other ingredients.
I was surprised to see that one of the main ingredients was flax seeds and more importantly the way that ground flax seeds produce in water a kind of thick gel.
I assumed it was this gel quality that the vegan sponge was relying on to get air into the mixture to rise during baking and hold shape after.
Anyway at the same time I remembered that flax seeds were also used to deal with some stomach problems and it was the same soothing gel quality that achieved it.
So I had a look around and found the great recipe for a flax seed and lemon juice digestive drink that can be used to deal with general stomach and digestive discomfort.
Continuing Your Exercise Plan
After years and years of research it has finally been discovered what is the perfect exercise routine for every man, woman and child on the planet.
So here it is!
The best exercise routine for you is the one that you will actually DO!
You see the idea that this or that routine is going to achieve whatever result is all very well but in the end the only routine that actually achieves anything is the one you do and do regularly and sufficiently.
So if it really doesn’t matter what the routine is as long as you do it then why don’t we all just do it?
And that is where the whole thing falls down.
Whilst it is quite easy to get a new exercise routine started it is another matter when it comes to maintaining that routine and this is where the trouble starts.
Pretty soon we have forgotten why we started it is the first place and our minds are feverishly feeding us reasons not to continue.
Remember, your body is designed to conserve energy and store energy because it runs on the idea that whatever food you just ate will be the last food ever and it must conserve energy at all costs.
That’s the main source of those negative thoughts that start up in your head ultimately convincing you to not exercise.
So below are some tips to keep ahead of the game and keep motivated to tell that damn body and mind to shut up, you are going for a run!
