Weekly Tips – Child Taming, More on Salt and Natural Calming Solutions

So, yet another “study” has been released this time reporting that our current perceptions of the effect excess salt in our diets has may have been a little off base.

To be honest I have never bought into most of these “one evil ingredient” causes this or that ill effect.

Possibly the king of these in my opinion is the salt argument.

It is undeniably true that the body will balance itself if given the opportunity in the vast majority of cases.

What I mean by that is that if you consume a bunch of salt but at the same time have a relatively balanced diet and engage in a relatively active lifestyle and on top of all that drink plenty of water then your body will simply expel the salt it does not need… simple.

What I see in a lot of these cases is that a bunch of people are identified as being a group susceptible to high blood pressure, heart disease and a host of other ailments.

They are studied and it is found these people have bad diets and poor exercise habits generally.

Some bright spark then leaps upon the salt levels of those people and of course finds them to be high.

From that we arrive at the “salt is bad” conclusion and suddenly we are all desperately searching the supermarket aisles for low salt products.

What you never see is a balanced and “whole” study of the problem taking into account what other products may be involved, how much water these people are consuming and on and on.

Child Taming Tips

I am not going to go into a long spiel about how you should or should not raise your kids.

I think for every family there is a different set of rules and strategies and I personally don’t think there is any way to really say what is right and what is wrong.

Most people, not having the advantage of a good job description available tend to wing it based on doing what they though their parents did right.

And on the other hand trying not to do what they though their parents did wrong!

One thing I do know is that to do a good job at anything you need to always be aware of and open to other ideas and see if they make sense to you.

Not that I am a great believer in the idea of trying to float through life in some artificial state of guru-like serenity but, sometime its good to have some backup to keep things calm.

Too Much Doing Nothing

I found this article very interesting because there was an Australian study done a few years back on the very same thing.

What they found was that the natural order of things for a human body was for it to be in almost constant motion of some type.

They found that the majority of normal bodily functions and processes were largely dependent on the presence of motion of some kind.

They found that without that motion the body tended to perform poorly and and as a result greatly increase the chances of getting one or more of our modern complaints such as heart problems, diabetes etc.

The good news was that they also found that it was not necessary to engage in strenuous exercise to get things running right. All that was needed was that the body be moved on a regular basis and even putting in a 10 minute walk every 20 minutes garnered improvements in overall bodily function and tone.

As a person who has been submerged somewhat unwillingly into the world of technology it is great to read about someone who has escaped and lived to tell the tale.

It gives me hope that perhaps one days I can follow suit and the world will not end if I do so!

I am thinking this possibly may have come too late for myself but for you dear reader there may be hope.

OK, the truth is that there really is nothing that “cures” colds and flu.

They are basically viral in nature so once they get a hold they just run through their little life cycles inside us until it all comes back under control.
