It took 12 long years before the original perpetrator of the vaccination / autism connection hoax was exposed and disbarred with the British Medical Journal, Lancet, retracting the story.
In that intervening time a whole world of anti-vaccination views built up based solely on people’s fears.
If there is one thing that will galvanize a group of humans into a fixed and unchanging viewpoint, it is fear.
It is too easy to believe in conspiracy theories.
After all, take a look around and you know there is more to what is going on than you are being told.
But here is the one thing you really need to understand.
If you are aware of a conspiracy then it is not a conspiracy.
It is something being fed to you in order to distract you from the real problem, the true evil.
The reasons for the war you can see are never the reasons for that war and in all likelihood it is not even the real war!
The political debate you see and are being drawn into in an emotional way is not the real activity that is occurring, it is a ruse, another distraction.
I have to admit I like watching cooking shows.
Unfortunately the recipes I end up making are usually the desserts but hey, that’s just me!
One vegetable that seems to have enjoyed a pretty stellar rise to coolness in the past year or so is Kale.
However there is a dark side to this new darling and that is the suggestion that Kale and other cruciferous vegetables may cause problems for people with thyroid condition.

What Does Your PEE Say About You?
It Eats Nicotine!
Given that worldwide, the average failure rate for most of the established methods of quitting cigarettes runs at about 90% I guess anything is worth a shot.
Scientists have discovered a bacteria that occurs in soil where tobacco is grown that depends entirely on the consumption of nicotine for its survival.
Apparently it contains an enzyme that break down the nicotine in order to extract the carbon and nitrogen it needs to live.
It is as yet unclear as to how this bacteria or at least the enzyme can be used to help break the nicotine habit the scientist are working on utilizing its properties.

One of the reason I tend to shy away from extreme points of view when it comes to diet is the fact that those extremes lends themselves to solutions that may be worse than the original problem.
Currently there is what I believe to be a well founded reaction against sugar in all its forms.
Over the past twenty or so years the level of added sugars especially when it comes to corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup, has quite frankly gone through the roof.
It is only now that we are finding out about the horrendous long term health problems that we are experiencing.
Of course the extreme view of this is that all sugar is bad and that all sugar is going to kill us… all!
It is an extreme position (no sugar at all) against another extreme of sugar added to everything.
The reasons for the addition to the food chain of huge quantities of corn based sugar is simple, economics. U.S. farming was revolutionised and instead of this being a boon it was turned into an industrial nightmare.
Instead of excess corn production being pared to meet demand, new ways to use the corn were created and here we are!
The other offshoot of the “no sugar at all” extreme is that instead of approaching the subject reasonably we end up with substitutes.
One such substitute is Stevia.
Now on this subject alone you also get the extremes as well!
It is all bad, it is all good (because it is natural). Take a look at the article below to get a more balanced view on the use of Stevia as an alternative sweetener.
There has been a little flurry of discussion online recently about the need to get enough Vitamin D every day.
So why is it that on top of everything else we seem to be getting wrong, we are all Vitamin D deficient?
Well it seems the answer to that is a little complex and depends on a number of factors, especially where you live.
However the general consensus is that after years of being scolded about exposure to direct sunlight we are all covering ourselves whilst outside or are sitting at home cowering with fear in darkened rooms!
Again it is the rule of extremes coming into play!
The truth is that getting out into direct sunlight is not going to cause skin cancer.
In order to qualify for that you really need to get out there and fry for a good amount of time on a regular basis for a long time.
On the other hand by totally avoiding the sun we are all failing to allow our bodies to manufacture Vitamin D that we depend on for building and maintaining bone structure and a number of other functions.
Over on the Harvard Blog they have posted an article on it and it is well worth the read to again, get it all back in perspective.
Simple Healthy Changes
This weeks theme somehow seems to have evolved immediately into a basic message of extremes.
We are faced every day with the extremes that Big Food has gone to in corrupting our food environment and the disastrous results they have achieved.
The answer to this is to not go to extremes ourselves.
To NOT cut out everything and just go health food crazy!
Life is meant to be enjoyed and there is great enjoyment in many things that are not good for us in huge quantities or on a daily basis.
But that doesn’t mean we can NEVER have them and NEVER have some naughty fun!
Check out this article below for five sensible things you can do the will improve your health without sucking the joy out of life.
As I sit here watching the great coffee debate rage on a daily basis there are two things I regularly do.
The first is to keep myself apprised of the situation and any relevant data that may come up to influence my behaviour.
The second is to drink coffee on a regular basis.
I like coffee.
I don’t drink gallons of it, but I do have a few coffees throughout the day and I enjoy that!
